IP Rating
As defined in international standard IEC 60529, IP (Ingress Protection) Rating classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects (including body parts like hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact, and water in electrical enclosures.
The IP Rating has two numbers. The first number indicates protection from solid objects or materials. The second number indicates the degree of protection from liquids. For example, an enclosure rated IP54 is protected from limited dust ingress and protected from water spray from any direction.
NEMA Rating
In addition, some of our customers manufacture products that are NEMA rated. The NEMA rating system is focused on electrical enclosures and rates the degree of the device’s construction and the protection it provides against corrosion, gasket aging and ingress of foreign materials when exposed to designated environmental conditions. NEMA lists 13 such enclosure types or levels-of-protection.

Die-cut Gaskets, Seals, Vents for IP and NEMA Rated Enclosures
Marian fabricates custom gaskets and seals for products and enclosures that are required to meet a specific IP and/or NEMA Rating. Marian can help recommend suitable materials and designs. Additionally, Marian also manufactures membrane vents with zone-laminated PSA that are used in sealed devices allowing pressure equalization within the enclosure while keeping out dust, dirt and moisture.
Marian can quickly provide sample materials and prototype parts. Contact us to discuss your IP/NEMA rated enclosure today.
